The goal of ReSource: Plastic is to provide an “activation hub” for companies to reach the plastic waste commitments they have made. One of the key areas of focus identified in this year's workplan is exploring reuse activation, leveraging the three Consumers Beyond Waste (CBW) playbooks on this topic, and supporting the continued development, publication, and adoption of a common reuse accounting method. Our WWF team of material scientists and packaging engineers help companies to create a baseline assessment, or ‘plastic footprint’, of their plastic usage and model where it is ending up in the world (geographically and by category: mismanaged, landfilled, incinerated, and recycled). We would then help to identify which interventions will most effectively reduce unnecessary plastic and plastic waste across a company’s plastic footprint, provide recommendations for putting them into practice, and measure progress year over year using our Footprint Tracker tool. ReSource membership also allows each member to collaborate with other companies, share lessons learned, and progress on joint solutions within our network.
