Summary

Kroger was the first US grocery retailer to launch Loop in-store and launched their in-store pilot at 25 Kroger-owned Fred Meyer locations in Portland, Oregon in February 2022. Through the program, Fred Meyer shoppers chose from an assortment of leading brands in reusable packaging. When purchasing a Loop product, customers pay a refundable deposit on the reusable packaging and can return their empty packaging at Loop return points located at each participating Fred Meyer location. After the empty packaging is returned, Loop professionally cleans the packaging for reuse, and it is refilled by the brands. Participating brands include national leading household names such as Clorox, Stubbs, Gerber, Pantene, Cascade, Seventh Generation, and Natures Path, as well as Kroger's Simple Truth private label brand. Kroger's partnership with Loop is aligned with the retailer's commitment to embrace innovation on its mission to Zero Hunger Zero Waste. The pilot program was successfully completed in Fall 2022 and was awarded the 2022 Reusies Award for "Best Corporate Initiative".

Goals and Impact:

Loop is building a scalable reuse ecosystem that enables our brand, retail, and restaurant partners to create alternatives to single use disposable products and packages, creating less waste and reducing overall environmental impact. Loop's central objective is to enable citizens to buy anywhere and return anywhere, making reuse just as convenient and accessible as single-use is today. Join us in building a global circular economy, and be part of our vision for a waste-free world.
