Circular City was awarded grant funding by Cyberport, Hong Kong to run a proof of concept for reusable coffee cups using digitised tracking technology. Partnering with NGO Plastic Free Seas and a local coffee shop chain, we saved over 6000 cups from landfill through a digital deposit based borrow/return scheme. The project won two Innovation awards, and enabled additional grant funding to develop version 2.

Goals and Impact:

To prove the concept of borrow & return as an alternative to single use coffee cups for takeout. Impact created was 6000 coffee cups borrowed and returned with a 95% return rate.
