For years, the City of Paris has been pursuing an ambitious reusable food packaging development policy aimed at building a more resilient circular economy. While 13 billion single-use packaging are produced every year in France from take away food, Paris intends to be a leader in ending the disposability paradigm. Led by the Deputy Mayor of Paris, responsible for circular economy, the development of a large-scale returnable food packaging system will not only reduce waste production and minimize the resource extraction but create new economic activities and local jobs, and educate the consumers. The City’s goal is to take advantage of its position as host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 to phase out the use of disposable plastic in the capital and to build a sustainable and lasting legacy of the Games.
